Hello Friends of Nielsen! What a great summer it has been. After a brief hiatus from our Art Exhibitions, we are back to business. What better way to celebrate this glorious summer sun than new art in our gallery. We are pleased to announce our next show - Hidden Treasures by Jessica Hess. New works on panel and paper.
Hess was born in Massachusetts and she grew up in North Carolina. Hess attended Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, Rhode Island and graduated with a BFA degree in Illustration in 2003. Her work was featured in the juried international art magazine, New American Paintings, issue number 74 (February/March 2008). Hess' artwork was used as an illustration for Harper's Magazine.
Now based in Oakland, CA, Jessica’s work is what can be described as hyper realistic landscapes. She focuses her subject matter on the gritty, crumbling, rundown, urban decay hidden in the overgrown earth around us. She masterfully captures the rich saturation in the flora, graffiti, and detritus of the neglected wild scenes she paints.
Hidden Treasures Limited Edition Print Release
Nielsen Arts will be releasing a limited edition print of Jessica's painting Echos. Each 14"x18" print will be numbered and signed made with archival paper and inks.

More on Jessica-
“Utilizing classical painting techniques, Jessica Hess interrupts her landscapes with digital aesthetics. The alternative reality created in the works examines censorship, free speech and the pervasiveness of technology in everyday life. The tightly rendered paintings offer a hyperbolic and perfected version of the scene that extends beyond its reality - flora springs from barren land, idyllic clouds sway across blue skies, the environment takes on a deeper saturation and pixels obscure graffiti. The inclusion of pixelization within the work emphasizes the artist’s intervention within the scene while also asking the viewer to question “What is reality?”
Our reception for Jessica will be held Saturday, August 24th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. We look forward to seeing you!
Hidden Treasures will run from August 17th - September 24th
